Hello! I’ve been a little lazy with the posts lately, and for that I am sorry! But, I’m just so tired all the time, now that school started! Why you ask? Well, my son, the 15 year old, has to catch his ride to school at 6:15AM…which means he needs to wake up at 5:45AM in order to get a shower, throw on his clothes and run out the door with his breakfast hanging out of his mouth. Much to my chagrin, he is incapable of waking himself up. So this means that good old mom has to get him up…at 5:45AM…UGHGHGHGHGH!
Now, I know a lot of you are probably saying “get him an alarm clock”. OK…I’ve tried this and he sleeps right through that annoying bzzzzzzzzzzz…..bzzzzzzzzzzzz….bzzzzzzzzz sound. So, I figured he needed something a little more powerful and I got him the alarm that vibrates and rolls around while a voice screams insults at him. Oh and the insults get progressively louder. NOPE…slept right through it too!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?
I gave up and resigned myself to the task. Now I wake up at 5:30AM, quickly make my coffee and head upstairs to wake the my sleeping 15 year old baby. I know, I know… “Never wake a sleeping baby”…but I think we need to add to this saying…especially if they’re 15 years old! All you mother’s of teenagers know what I’m talking about! Waking a sleeping teenager is not pretty!!! And yet this is how I choose to spend my pre-dawn hours! 🙂
So, after my son get’s off to school, I have a few minutes to check my emails and tend to my crops on Farmville (Facebook app), a game or two of Farkle and then I’m off to get my daughter up. Are you wondering when I’m getting my runs in? Well, I have to wait until my daughter leaves for the bus at 8:30AM. It’s not too hot when I leave, but if I have to run anything more than 6 miles it gets a little stifling towards the end. Nothing I can’t deal with, but not pleasurable! Thankfully, my long runs are on Sundays.
I will try to post more frequently…I promise!!! I am hoping that I will eventually get use to the new schedule….but for now all I can say is …YAWN!!!!:O
So the marathon training is kickin’ up just a tad! My schedule called for a long weekend run of 6-7 miles. I had originally planned this for Saturday. Then I realized that
1. I would be consuming adult beverages (responsibly) on Friday night…and hangovers are not always good for long morning runs.
2. Saturday would be filled with numerous chores (shopping adventures with my daughter) that are best done in the morning, before she gets cranky…but well after recovering from the night before.
3. Sunday is a much better long run day, since fewer people are on the road filling my lungs with exhaust fumes.
These sound like excuses, huh? Yeah, but only if I didn’t run on Sunday. But I did run…in fact I ran the full 7 miles with energy to spare!! HOOOO YAAAA!!! It was a beautiful morning and I found my comfortable pace right off the bat, which made for a pleasant hour + run through the hood! I was actually really surprised at how quickly an hour goes by, when your jamming to your favorite tunes and letting your mind wonder. I think I solved all the world’s problems during that 60 minute endorphin rush! But once the endorphins were gone…I couldn’t remember a single solution. Damn, I vaguely remember a cure for cancer and a compromise that brought about world peace. Oh well, maybe I’ll remember on my next run!
The kids are back in school. Aaaaaahhhhhh….deep breath in…and slowly…let….it… out. My days are free to do what I want for 6 hours. Yes, 6 whole hours of hot rock massages, deluxe manis & pedis, 2 hour lunches with the girls!!! Sounds wonderful, huh? Yeah, but not my reality! So, what am I doing? Freaking out!!!! Why, you ask? Ummmm…because I had a moment of complete delirium when I typed in my credit card number and hit submit, making me $120 poorer, and the proud owner of a piece of paper that says I’ve agreed to run 26.2 miles…woop woop. (Notice the lack of exclamation point) Again, I must convey my feelings of “what the *#$&” have I done!!! (And there are those exclamation points…in triplicate)
Yes, I am the type of person that likes a challenge, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with this particular “challenge”. So I decided to make a plan…a training plan to get me moving in the right direction. The thing about plans, though, is they’re only good if you actually follow them. Just because it’s on the calendar, doesn’t mean it’s going to get done! And this is where I’m at right now! You see today, my calendar says “Tempo run-5 miles” but my body is screaming “PEACEFUL SLEEP-6 HOURS”. OK, so which would you listen to? I’m leaning towards the sleep-thing, but the guilt is building….it’s getting really heavy…and yeah…I’m lacing up my shoes now. Looks like guilt won and I am off for my “tempo run-5 miles”. Smiley face 🙂
